Plastic eyelid surgery
Effects of plastic surgery of the eyelids
The effect of blefaroplast surgery is permanent removal of excess skin and / or fatty hernia responsible for the heavy and asymmetric appearance of the upper or lower eyelids. Its consequence is to achieve the effect of rejuvenation, optimal skin tension and natural symmetry of the eye area.
What does the plastic eyelid surgery look like?
Upper and lower eyelid surgery is always preceded by consultation and medical history, during which indications for surgery are set and all possible contraindications are excluded.
Upper eyelid blepharoplasty
The procedure involves surgical excision of excess skin and (if necessary) a part of the peri-endocard fat, forming a kind of “hernia”. The medical indications for this procedure are:
- Ptosis (upper eyelid drooping, which reaches up to the edge of the cornea). Ptosis may be a congenital anomaly. In most cases, the cause of this disease is poor development of the upper eyelid muscle or damage to the innervation of this muscle,
- Fat hernias,
- Aquired ptosis – excess skin of the eyelids (dermatochalasis) and a strongly developed part of the ocular muscle of the eye.
Lower eyelid surgery:
Indications for lower eyelid surgery are analogous to those for upper eyelids, but the procedure can be performed in two ways. The first method consists in making a 2mm cut under the eyelashes. The second method consists in making a cut from the conjunctival side of the eyelid (a conventional method of access – as in the case of upper eyelid plastic surgery). The goal of the treatment is to remove excess skin and fat. The advantage of this kind of method are invisible scars.
Blepharoplasty is performed under local anesthesia, which reduces pain to a minimum. After the treatment, the seams are left stuck – in the wrinkle of the upper eyelid, or just below the eyelashes on the lower eyelid. Sutures are removed after 7 days. The wounds are covered with thin slices.
Duration of plastic eyelid surgery
The treatment lasts from 90 to 120 minutes.
The period of convalescence after plastic surgery
The period of convalescence after plastic surgery of the eyelids depends on individual factors, but usually takes about 21 days (until the wound heals completely). Sutures are removed after 7 days during the follow-up visit. It is assumed that depending on the well-being and nature of the activity, the patient may normally function after a few days after the surgery.
The duration of the effects
Surgery of upper and lower eyelid surgery ensures lasting effects.
- taking anticoagulants,
- clotting disorders (including congenital hemorrhagic and vascular defects),
- severe, unregulated hypertension or diabetes,
- purulent infections in the planned surgery.
The presented description of the procedure is of general character and does not constitute medical information. The basis for the operation is always an individual medical consultation.
