What the treatment involves
Reconstruction of acquired deformities of the auricle or earlobe is a surgical procedure that restores the correct shape of an ear damaged by injury. It most commonly involves a lobe torn by a snagged earring or stretched after wearing tunnels (plugs).
The procedure is performed by a surgeon under local anesthesia, aiming to restore the shape prior to the deformity or to achieve symmetry with the other, healthy ear. For many patients, this means a return to comfort and the ability to wear jewelry again.
Indications
The procedure is worth considering when the following occur:
- an earlobe torn by a snagged earring
- excessive stretching of the lobe tissue after wearing tunnels (plugs)
- other acquired deformities of the auricle
- ear asymmetry requiring correction
- difficulty wearing jewelry due to lobe deformity
How the treatment works
After a consultation and qualification, the surgeon administers local anesthesia. The procedure lasts from about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, depending on the extent and degree of the deformity.
The surgeon performs a wedge excision of the damage or dissects the excess tissue and removes the redundant portions, then reshapes the lobe, restoring the shape prior to the deformity or mirroring the healthy ear on the opposite side. The wound is carefully closed with interrupted sutures, with attention to the aesthetics of the scar.
Results
The correct shape of the auricle or earlobe and symmetry with the other ear are restored. For many patients, this means fewer complexes and a return to unrestricted daily life.
The final result is visible once healing is complete, about 4 weeks after the procedure. The effect is permanent.
Aftercare
Proper wound care determines the aesthetics of the scar and the durability of the result. Remember to:
- not remove the dressing for the first 2–3 days
- then cleanse the wound with an antiseptic and protect it with a plaster
- wear a special headband for the following approximately 2 weeks
- wear the headband at night for the next approximately 4 weeks
- avoid excessive wetting of the ear area
- take the recommended painkillers and anti-swelling medication
- avoid physical exertion and come in to have the sutures removed between day 7 and day 12
Contraindications
We do not perform it in cases such as:
- blood clotting disorders
- poorly controlled chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension)
- active viral or bacterial skin infections
- pregnancy and breastfeeding
- certain autoimmune and neoplastic diseases
- a tendency to form keloids (relative contraindication)
- allergy to anesthetic agents
The final qualification is carried out by the surgeon during the consultation.

Frequently asked questions
Will I be able to wear earrings again after the procedure?+
Yes, once fully healed, re-piercing the lobe is usually possible. It is generally advised to wait a few months and make a new hole away from the scar line — the exact timing is determined by the physician.
Is the procedure painful?+
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, so you feel no pain. Once it wears off, any discomfort is relieved with painkillers.
How long does healing take?+
Full recovery takes about 4 weeks. Sutures are removed between day 7 and day 12, and the final result is visible once healing is complete.
Will the scar be visible?+
We close the wound with precise interrupted sutures, with attention to aesthetics. Once healed, the scar is usually discreet, although its final appearance also depends on your skin's individual characteristics.
Can both lobes be corrected at the same time?+
Yes, if the deformity affects both ears, the procedure can be performed on both sides during a single visit. The scope is determined by the surgeon at the consultation.
How much does earlobe reconstruction cost?+
The procedure costs from 1,500 to 2,000 zł, depending on the scope and area. You will receive an exact quote during the consultation, and the full breakdown can be found in the price list.
