What it involves

A dermatological consultation is a meeting with a physician during which we assess the condition of your skin, hair, and nails and identify the cause of the problem you have come in with.

The physician takes a detailed history, examines the skin, and, if needed, performs a dermatoscopic examination of moles. The outcome of the visit is a diagnosis and an individual care or treatment plan.

Indications

It is worth coming in for a consultation in cases such as:

  • concerning moles and pigmented lesions (dermatoscopic monitoring)
  • acne, seborrheic and atopic dermatitis
  • psoriasis, vitiligo, and chronic inflammatory skin conditions
  • hair loss, dandruff, and scalp diseases
  • skin allergies and recurring eczema

How the visit works

The visit begins with a history taking regarding your complaints, general health, and history of skin problems.

The physician then examines the skin and assesses moles with a dermatoscope, a device that provides high magnification of the lesion. On this basis, they make a diagnosis and present further recommendations.

What to expect

After the consultation you receive a clear diagnosis and a care, treatment, or further diagnostics plan tailored to you.

Regular dermatoscopic monitoring of moles increases the chance of early detection of lesions requiring treatment.

Recommendations

The consultation requires no recovery. To make the most of its outcome:

  • follow the physician's care and treatment recommendations
  • come in for mole check-ups at the recommended intervals
  • observe your skin and do not delay a visit when a mole changes

Contraindications

A dermatological consultation is safe and has practically no contraindications. It is worth remembering that:

  • before the visit, do not cover the lesions being assessed with plasters or makeup
  • inform the physician about the medications you take and any chronic diseases

The final scope of the examination and further course of action are determined by the physician during the consultation.
