What the treatment involves

A retinol treatment (e.g. Retibooster) is a professional course based on retinol and vitamin A derivatives — retinoids, which are among the best-researched anti-aging ingredients. At a high, controlled concentration, retinol stimulates the renewal of the epidermis and the remodeling of the skin.

Retinoids act through a complex signaling pathway that supports the regeneration of the epidermis and dermis, collagen synthesis and the evening out of skin tone. The result is smoother, firmer and more radiant skin, with reduced fine wrinkles and discoloration.

After the treatment, depending on the concentration and the sensitivity of your skin, a period of peeling may occur. This is a natural stage of renewal that requires gentle care and consistent sun protection.

Indications

We most often recommend a facial retinol treatment for:

  • fine wrinkles and signs of photoaging
  • loss of firmness, rough texture and dull skin
  • discoloration and uneven skin tone
  • oily skin with enlarged pores and blackheads
  • the need for intensive renewal and improved skin quality

How the treatment works

The course is preceded by a consultation, an assessment of your skin and the selection of the product concentration. Your skin should be properly prepared, so we plan the treatment taking into account any active cosmetics you use.

During the treatment we cleanse the skin and apply the retinol product, which remains on the skin for a set time (some protocols recommend washing it off after several to a dozen or so hours at home, according to the instructions). You may feel temporary warmth or slight tightness of the skin.

Results

Improved skin quality — smoothing, radiance and a more even tone — is usually visible once the peeling period has passed and the epidermis has fully regenerated. The effect builds over the course of the series and with regular skincare.

Retinoids are among the best-documented ingredients in anti-aging skincare, but the result is individual and depends on the condition of your skin, the concentration used and your consistency with sun protection.

Aftercare

After a retinol treatment, the skin requires gentle care and particular protection from the sun — retinoids increase the skin's sensitivity to UV. Remember to:

  • always use UV 50+ sunscreen and avoid sun exposure and tanning beds
  • use gentle, moisturizing and soothing products for a few days
  • not pick at the peeling epidermis and not use mechanical scrubs
  • discontinue other strong exfoliating cosmetics (acids) for the duration of the course, as recommended
  • wash the product off thoroughly at the recommended time, if the protocol requires it

Contraindications

Contraindications (eligibility is assessed by a cosmetologist):

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • active inflammation, infections and herpes in the treatment area
  • taking oral retinoids (e.g. isotretinoin)
  • a fresh tan and planned intense sun exposure
  • allergy to retinoids and severely irritated or damaged skin

Final eligibility is assessed by a cosmetologist during the consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Will my skin peel after retinol?+

Yes, depending on the concentration and the sensitivity of your skin, a period of peeling may occur. This is a natural stage of epidermal renewal that requires gentle care.

Do I need to use sunscreen after a retinol treatment?+

Yes, absolutely. Retinoids increase the skin's sensitivity to the sun, so consistent protection with UV 50+ sunscreen is essential.

When is the best time to have a retinol treatment?+

Most often in autumn and winter, when sun exposure is lower, and always with consistent sun protection.

How many treatments are needed?+

We usually recommend a series of several treatments a few weeks apart. Your cosmetologist sets the exact plan and concentration during the consultation.

How does an in-clinic treatment differ from a retinol cream?+

The treatment uses higher, controlled concentrations applied by a cosmetologist, which delivers more intensive renewal than home skincare, while keeping safety under supervision.
