Laser hair removal (diode laser)

Laser hair removal uses a diode laser with a wavelength of 810 nm, which selectively destroys hair follicles without damaging the surrounding skin. The laser energy is absorbed by the melanin in the hair and converted into heat that damages the matrix responsible for hair growth (so-called selective photothermolysis).

A large treatment head and a contact cooling system make the treatment fast and well tolerated, and extensive areas — such as the back or legs — can be treated in a few dozen minutes. We perform the treatment after prior qualification and assessment of hair color and skin phototype.

We recommend the treatment when you want to permanently reduce hair growth. The most common indications are:

• excessive hair on the face and body
• ingrown hairs and the irritation associated with them
• a tendency to irritation after shaving and waxing
• the wish to permanently reduce hair growth (underarms, bikini area, legs, back, face)

During the consultation we assess the color and thickness of the hair as well as the skin phototype, and select the treatment parameters.

We treat the area with the laser head; thanks to contact cooling, the sensations are usually limited to warmth and slight stinging. The treatment takes from a few minutes (for example the upper lip) to about an hour (for example the back). We plan a series of 4 to 8 treatments at intervals of 6 to 10 weeks, in line with the phases of hair growth.

The hair starts to fall out about 2 weeks after the treatment, and each subsequent session reduces its amount and thickness.

Once the full series is complete, the effect is permanent. Over time, single fine hairs may appear; these are removed during a short touch-up visit.

The skin may be temporarily red after the treatment. To take care of the effect and of your safety:

• use a cream with an SPF 50+ filter for several weeks and avoid the sun and tanning beds
• moisturize the skin, for example with a panthenol product
• do not pluck or wax the hair between treatments — shaving is allowed
• avoid the sauna, the swimming pool and intense exercise for 1–2 days

In addition, follow the general rules after laser treatments. Permanent hair reduction is achieved through a series of treatments carried out in line with the hair growth cycle; report any unusual symptoms to the clinic:

• in the first days, do not irritate the skin and wash it with gentle products
• do not pick at any small scabs and avoid overheating the skin
• because of the risk of discoloration, avoid the sun for up to 6 months and consistently use a UV filter 50+

We do not perform it in cases such as:

• pregnancy and breastfeeding
• an active tan and very light, red or gray hair
• taking photosensitizing medications
• cancer and uncontrolled diabetes
• active infections and skin lesions at the treatment site
• a pacemaker or metal implants in the treatment area

The final qualification is carried out by a cosmetologist during the consultation.
