What the treatment involves

The treatment uses the Nd:YAG laser with a wavelength of 1064 nm, whose light penetrates deep into the vessel and is absorbed by hemoglobin. The heated blood cells coagulate, the vessel is closed and within about 3 weeks absorbed by the body.

It is one of the best-studied methods of treating vascular lesions — in clinical studies significant improvement or resolution of vessels was achieved in the vast majority of patients.

Indications

We recommend the treatment primarily for:

  • dilated vessels on the face and legs
  • erythema and vascular skin
  • ruby, spider and flat angiomas
  • the vascular form of rosacea

How the treatment works

After the cosmetologist assesses the lesions, we protect the eyes and prepare the skin. We usually perform the treatment without anesthesia, because it could constrict the vessels and reduce effectiveness.

We target the individual vessels with the laser beam; you feel light pricks and heat. The procedure lasts from 10 to 60 minutes, depending on the extent of the lesions.

Results

The vessels may temporarily darken and then — usually within 21 days — disappear or become much less visible. The optimal effect is visible after 2–3 months.

After a series of treatments the effects are permanent, although over time new vessels may appear, requiring a touch-up treatment.

Aftercare

After the treatment redness or swelling lasting a maximum of up to 48 hours may occur. Remember to:

  • use a cream with a minimum SPF 30 filter, especially in summer
  • stop retinoids a month before the treatment, and chemical peels 2 weeks before
  • avoid sunbathing and overheating the skin after the treatment

Beyond that, the clinical protocol after laser therapy applies. The vessels disappear gradually, and the full effect may be visible after the series; if worrying symptoms appear, contact the clinic:

  • care for the skin with the cream recommended by the specialist and do not irritate the treated area
  • for about 7 days use only gentle cleansing products
  • for 72 hours skip running, fitness and other heavy exertion
  • use the sauna and pool once the skin has fully healed
  • avoid the sun for even up to 6 months and consistently use a UV 50+ filter (risk of discoloration)

Contraindications

We do not perform the treatment in cases including:

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • diabetes and cancer
  • tanned skin or the use of self-tanners
  • taking photosensitizing medications and herbs and isotretinoin
  • epilepsy and vitiligo
  • active skin inflammation

The final qualification is carried out by the cosmetologist during the consultation.

Frequently asked questions

Does the laser close vessels on the legs?+

Yes — the Nd:YAG 1064 nm laser reaches deeper-lying vessels, which is why it works well both on the face and on the legs.

Does the treatment hurt?+

You feel light pricks and intense heat. We usually do not use anesthesia, so as not to constrict the vessels.

When will the vessels disappear?+

Most vessels disappear or fade within about 21 days; the full effect is visible after 2–3 months.

How many treatments are needed?+

Usually 3–6 treatments at 4 week intervals; the number depends on the extent of the lesions and is set by the cosmetologist.

Is the effect permanent?+

A closed vessel does not return, but new ones may form — in that case a touch-up treatment is worthwhile.

When is the best time to have the treatment?+

Best in autumn and winter; in summer protection with SPF 30+ is necessary.

How much does laser closure of blood vessels cost?+

The treatment costs from 700 zł. You will receive an exact quote during your consultation, and the full breakdown can be found in the price list.
