What the treatment involves
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a regenerative treatment in which we use your own blood. After centrifugation, we obtain plasma with a high concentration of platelets and the growth factors they contain.
Injected into the skin, the plasma stimulates fibroblasts, collagen synthesis and microcirculation, which translates into better firmness, hydration and skin tone. Since the material comes from you, the risk of an allergic reaction is minimal.
Indications
We most often use platelet-rich plasma for:
- the first signs of ageing — fine lines and loss of firmness
- tired skin lacking radiance and tone
- laxity and weakened condition of the skin of the face, neck and hands
- hair loss and weakened hair (scalp biostimulation)
How the treatment works
The treatment is preceded by a consultation. We draw a small amount of blood from you (about 6–18 ml), which we centrifuge for a few minutes to separate the platelet-rich plasma.
After applying a numbing cream, we administer the plasma point by point or in lines with microinjections into the area requiring regeneration. The whole procedure takes 30–60 minutes.
Results
You will usually notice the first effects of biostimulation about 2–3 weeks after the treatment, and the result builds up with each repetition in the series.
After a series of 3 treatments, the effect lasts up to about 12 months. To maintain the result, top-up treatments are recommended.
Aftercare
The treatment does not take you out of your daily routine — you usually return to it the next day. Remember to:
- avoid intense exertion, the sauna, solarium and alcohol for 24 hours
- not touch or massage the injection sites for a few hours
- use gentle skincare and sun protection
It is also worth following the clinical protocol for plasma injection treatments. The effect is individual and builds up after the series, usually over a dozen or so weeks; if you experience any concerning symptoms, contact the clinic:
- during healing, cleanse the skin only with a gentle product
- apply cool compresses for any swelling
- wait about 72 hours before wearing full make-up
- drink plenty of water, at least 1.5–2 litres a day, for 2 weeks
- avoid sun exposure for up to 6 months and use SPF 50+
Contraindications
We do not perform it, among others, in cases of:
- blood diseases and clotting disorders
- cancer and active autoimmune diseases
- active inflammation and skin infections (e.g. herpes)
- pregnancy and breastfeeding
- uncontrolled diabetes and anticoagulant treatment
