What the treatment involves
The fractional CO2 laser emits a beam with a wavelength of 10 600 nm, which it splits into microbeams that create columns of vaporization in the skin surrounded by healthy tissue. It is the oldest, but still one of the most effective methods of ablative resurfacing.
The thermal energy reaches the dermis and triggers intense collagen remodeling. The fractional way of working allows clear effects to be achieved with shorter recovery than the old, full-surface CO2 lasers.
Indications
We recommend the treatment primarily for:
- scars, including post-acne scars
- stretch marks
- deeper wrinkles and folds
- signs of photoaging and loss of firmness
- uneven structure and roughness of the skin
How the treatment works
The treatment is preceded by a consultation and selection of parameters. We numb the skin with a numbing cream.
The laser creates microscopic damage reaching the dermis, activating healing and the synthesis of new collagen. The procedure lasts 30–60 minutes.
Results
Immediately after the treatment the skin is red, swollen and tight. The proper effects — smoothing, firming and improved structure — appear after 5–8 weeks.
The collagen remodeling lasts 6–12 months, and the results last on average about 2 years, after which the treatment can be repeated.
Aftercare
After the treatment the skin requires careful care, and healing lasts 7–14 days. Remember to:
- do not tan the skin and use a high SPF filter
- care for it with products recommended by the doctor
- do not pick at the scabs and avoid the sauna and hot water in the first days
Also follow the clinical rules after the fractional CO2 laser. The rebuilding of the skin and the full effect take from 2 to 12 weeks, usually after a series; report any worrying symptoms to the clinic:
- for about 7 days use gentle cleansing products
- for 72 hours give up heavy physical exertion (running, fitness)
- use the pool only after the skin has fully healed
- for up to 6 months protect the skin from the sun with a UV 50+ filter (risk of discoloration)
Contraindications
We do not perform the treatment in cases including:
- pregnancy and breastfeeding
- a tendency toward keloids
- taking anticoagulant medication and isotretinoin (up to 6 months)
- cancer, radiotherapy, diabetes, vitiligo, psoriasis and atopic dermatitis
- active herpes, infections and skin inflammation
- a chemical peel or another laser treatment on that area in recent weeks
