Treatment

Poly-L-lactic acid

Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) is a collagen biostimulator - it does not fill wrinkles on the spot but prompts the skin to rebuild its own collagen, delivering a gradual and long-lasting effect.

What the treatment involves

Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) is a biostimulator that is well tolerated and fully absorbed by the body over time. However, it does not act like a classic filler: instead of filling a wrinkle on the spot, it stimulates fibroblasts to produce new collagen.

The effect builds gradually - the skin rebuilds its own structure, which is why the result looks natural and lasts a long time. It is a solution particularly valued in slim people with thin skin and a visible loss of volume.

Indications

The treatment is recommended for loss of firmness and volume associated with collagen depletion. The most common indications are:

  • loss of firmness and sagging of the facial skin
  • loss of volume in slim people with thin skin
  • wrinkles at the corners of the mouth and on the temples
  • hollowing of the temples, cheekbone arches and tear troughs
  • improvement of the contour around the jaw angle
  • overall rejuvenation and improved skin density

How the treatment works

The treatment is preceded by a thorough medical consultation.

We apply a numbing cream to the skin, and the product is administered with a very fine needle or microcannula. At the end we perform a massage to distribute the product evenly. The procedure takes 30 to 60 minutes.

Results

The effects appear gradually as the skin rebuilds collagen - the full result is usually visible after approx. 12 weeks. The skin becomes firmer, denser and looks younger.

In favourable cases the effect lasts even around 2 years, which is why PLLA is considered one of the longer-lasting biostimulators.

Aftercare

After the treatment, cooling the skin is recommended, and mild bruising usually does not last longer than 2-4 days. An important element is at-home massage:

  • massage the treated area as instructed by the physician (often several times a day for several days)
  • apply cold compresses if swelling or redness appears
  • avoid the sauna, solarium and intense exercise for approx. 2 weeks
  • drink more water and protect the skin from the sun

Our clinical set of recommendations for injectable biostimulators also applies. The effect builds gradually - the full result is usually visible after approx. 12 weeks; report any unusual symptom to the clinic:

  • avoid air travel for the first 24 hours
  • on the first nights sleep on your back with your head raised at an angle of approx. 45 degrees
  • do not apply makeup for the first 24 hours, then treat it gently for 2-3 days
  • until the swelling subsides, protect the face from frost, wind and sun
  • postpone scheduled dental hygiene procedures by about 8 weeks

Contraindications

We do not perform the treatment in cases such as:

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • autoimmune diseases (e.g. Hashimoto's disease in an active phase)
  • uncontrolled diabetes
  • a tendency to hypertrophic scars and keloids
  • active viral or bacterial infections of the facial skin (e.g. herpes)

The final qualification is carried out by the physician during the consultation.

Frequently asked questions

How does poly-L-lactic acid differ from hyaluronic acid?+

PLLA does not fill a wrinkle right away but stimulates the skin to produce its own collagen - the effect builds gradually and lasts a long time.

Why isn't the effect immediate?+

Because it comes from new collagen, whose rebuilding takes time - the full result is usually visible after approx. 12 weeks.

Does the treatment hurt?+

We use a numbing cream, but the treatment is not entirely painless - the sensations are usually well tolerated.

Why do you have to massage the face after the treatment?+

Massage helps distribute the product evenly and reduces the risk of nodules forming.

How long does the effect last?+

In favourable cases even around 2 years.

Who is this treatment for?+

Especially for slim people with thin skin and loss of firmness who expect a natural, gradual effect.

How much does poly-L-lactic acid cost?+

The treatment costs from 2 500 to 3 500 zł per vial, depending on the product. The physician plans the number of vials and sessions during the consultation - usually 2-3 sessions a few weeks apart are used.

What effects to expect - and why the divergent opinions?+

Poly-L-lactic acid works through gradual collagen stimulation, so the effect builds over weeks and reaches its full extent after 2-3 months. Hence the divergent opinions: people assessing the result after a week often don't yet see the changes that will appear later. It is a treatment for the patient - in return, the effect looks natural and lasts up to around 2 years.
