Tropocollagen

Tropocollagen is a treatment consisting of the injectable administration of lyophilised (dehydrated) type I collagen, which is dissolved in saline before use. Unlike stimulators, which only prompt the skin to work, tropocollagen supplies it with ready-made building material - collagen is the main structural protein of the dermis.

Products of this type (e.g. Linerase, MD Tissue) are sterile, purified type I collagen of heterologous origin. Administered intradermally, it forms a scaffold for the skin and may support fibroblast activity and remodelling of the extracellular matrix, which translates into improved density and quality of the skin.

Contemporary reviews of injectable collagen in aesthetic and regenerative medicine describe it as a material with an established position and a good tolerance profile, used to improve skin firmness and regeneration. The effect is biological in nature and builds up over time.

At the Dr Kuschill MEDESTETIS clinics in Krakow and Warsaw, we perform tropocollagen after a consultation and medical qualification. The physician assesses the indications, selects the area and the number of treatments, and rules out contraindications, including allergies.

We direct tropocollagen to people who want to regenerate and strengthen their skin and improve its density. The indications include, among others:

• loss of firmness, tone and elasticity of the skin
• thin, lax skin with reduced density
• fine wrinkles and general signs of ageing of the skin of the face, neck and decolletage
• tired, dehydrated and dull skin
• support for skin regeneration, including within post-acne scars (as part of a treatment plan)
• a desire to improve the overall condition and quality of the skin

The treatment is preceded by a consultation and skin assessment. We cleanse the skin and, if needed, apply a numbing cream.

The product is administered intradermally with a fine needle using a point (mesotherapy) technique over the indicated area. The treatment usually takes 30-45 minutes.

Tropocollagen is most often used in a series of several treatments (usually 2-4) a few weeks apart, in order to gradually improve the condition of the skin. The exact plan is set by the physician during the consultation.

The effects appear gradually - the skin becomes firmer, denser, more elastic and looks regenerated. The fullest result is usually observed after the series of treatments is completed.

Results are individual and require maintenance - they usually last a few months, which is why the treatments are repeated periodically. Effects cannot be guaranteed; their extent depends on the initial condition of the skin and lifestyle.

After the treatment, it is worth being gentle with the skin for a few days. You will receive detailed recommendations in writing; they most often include:

• gentle cleansing and avoiding vigorous rubbing of the puncture sites
• avoiding makeup on the day of the treatment (usually approx. 12-24 h)
• avoiding the sauna, swimming pool, intense exercise and hot baths for a few days
• sun protection (SPF) and avoiding the solarium
• avoiding alcohol and blood-thinning medications in the treated area (as advised by the physician)

Tropocollagen is a medical treatment performed after medical qualification. The contraindications include, among others:

• pregnancy and breastfeeding
• an active infection at the treatment site (e.g. herpes, purulent acne lesions)
• an allergy to collagen or the product's ingredients
• autoimmune diseases in an active phase
• blood coagulation disorders
• a tendency to keloids
• cancer under treatment

The final qualification and the ruling out of contraindications are carried out by the physician during the consultation.
